Here’s a confession to kick things off: we want to be the most honest builder in Birmingham.
Not the biggest. Not the flashiest. The most honest. We know that’s a bold thing to put in writing, especially in an industry that doesn’t always have the best reputation for keeping its word. But we’ve decided that if we’re going to chase a title, that’s the one worth chasing — and over the next few months, we’re going to show our work.
So what is this, exactly?
Starting today, we’re kicking off a series here on the blog (with some videos thrown in for good measure) built entirely around what makes Precision Homecrafters honest. Not just “we don’t lie to you” honest (although, yes, obviously that too), but the fuller picture: the mistakes we make on jobs, how we fix them, why we bother fixing them the right way instead of the easy way, and what actually goes on behind the curtain of a remodeling company that’s been doing this for almost 30 years.
We’re calling the whole thing “I AM PHC”, which is an acronym that we hold as our core values:
- Integrity
- Authenticity
- Maturing
- Precise
- Hospitable
- Caring
Six ideas, six posts, one big point: we’d rather you trust us than be impressed by us. Ideally both, but if we had to pick, we’re picking trust every time.
Why bother?
Fair question. Marketing usually wants to talk about countertops and cabinet lines, not about a company’s values. But honestly (pun very much intended), the older this trade gets and the more of it we see, the more convinced we are that values — the “soft stuff” everyone assumes matters less than craftsmanship — are actually the whole game. Anybody can install a backsplash. Not everybody will tell you the truth when a backsplash goes sideways.
This didn’t come out of nowhere, either. Honesty has been part of the PHC story from the start, and it’s the kind of “honest” we’re aiming for — not the minimum-legal-requirement kind, but the kind that costs you something and you do it anyway. We’ve got some stories to prove it, and we’re saving the best of them for later in this series.
We also think most companies save this kind of talk for when something’s already gone wrong — a callback, a complaint, a review that needs responding to. We’d rather start the conversation before any of that happens, so when we do fall short (and we will, eventually), you already know who you’re dealing with.
What’s coming
This first post is meant to be a light one — a “here’s the plan, here’s why we’re excited” kind of post. The next six will dig into each letter of I AM PHC with real stories from real jobs (yes, including the ones that didn’t go perfectly the first time). Some will be lighter, some will get more personal, but all of them are going to be true, which is really the only promise we’re trying to keep here.
Thanks for reading the opening chapter. We think it’s going to be a good series — and if nothing else, it’ll be an honest one.
